SUP schools and coaching in New Zealand
If you’re looking for a SUP lesson or some coaching, we strongly recommend using an experienced and knowledgeable instructor wherever possible. While SUP is essentially a very safe sport, if it is not taught correctly using appropriate equipment, your experience is very likely to be less than pleasurable. There can be a world of difference between the teaching and safety practises of a professionally run paddleboarding school, and the ‘casual operator’ on a beach who has simply got themselves a couple of boards and has no formal training or qualifications whatsoever!

Running since 2008, Northland Paddleboarding is New Zealand’s longest running SUP school, and offers beginner lessons, improver sessions, SUP surf tuition, safety training and advanced coaching (which can be done remotely, check out supcoachonline.com for more details), SUP instructor training, rentals and try-before-you-buy sessions. With a working fleet of nearly 50 paddleboards, Northland Paddleboarding also offers school sessions for camps and EOTC days and training for the Northland Secondary Schools Paddleboard Championships.
We also run the Kororipo Paddlers club paddle in the Kerikeri Basin; a weekly get together for a relaxed social paddle in good company or a fun race for those that want to break a sweat, followed by food and drink in the waterfront Plough and Feather restaurant.
